This was a slower week of gaming; after food we got a late start with lots of yawns. We had a lot of fun despite the tiredness in the room.

We started with a game of Alhambra and finished with a couple of games of Apples to Apples.

First Alhambra: Jim, Scott (me), Ben, and Jerret played; it was Jerret’s first time playing this game. Since Jennifer (Ward) wasn’t playing, I must have inherited her strategy– my first two buildings had 5 wall segments, greatly restricting the growth of my Alhambra. Despite the drawback, those long walls raked in a lot of points in the scoring rounds.

Jerret got off to a solid start. There was a lot of shared domination of building types in the first scoring round; no one pulled ahead on points until my long walls scored and pushed me ahead of the pack. When the second scoring round came up, we were still mired in a lot of two and three way ties for many building types. My wall had grown to a length of 19 and I’d cornered a narrow lead in a few of the smaller buildings, so I pulled ahead. The third scoring round was 10 tiles later– since I’d been nearly built out, my wall length stayed at 19, while those last purchases split up some of the duplication and gave a few more first and second place scores, instead of so many splits. The lead I’d accumulated was too great, especially with the long wall scoring again.

We then played a couple of games of Apples to Apples with the same crew, but adding Jennifer (Danielson). She cleaned up the first game, while Jerret pulled out a victory in our second game. It was a lot of silly fun… amazing how quick Jerret figured out which cards would make us chuckle.
