Last week, we were discussing purchasing stuff between sessions, so that we’re ready to get to the “good stuff” when the next adventure begins. Here are some of the key points that came up in the thread.

Ben asked how much gold we’ve made– an important question for shopping. We divied out 75 gp apiece last time, so most characters probably have 75-80 gp. If you saved money at character generation, you might have more.

There are a number of links- one to equipment (with price and details) and several to familiars, in case Jennifer decides to go that route.

I was kind of “ho hum” about the idea of purchasing. It’s only 75 gp after all; you can’t even afford a cheap potion. Then I stopped and looked at it from my character’s point of view: he came to town with three gold and a few silver, everything he’d saved prior to adventuring. Sure, he had a number of cool items (the composite bow, his tools)– but those weren’t purchased, they were gifts and heirlooms passed along to him. So the 75 gp is huge deal; he’d have to work for a year to earn that as 2 sp/day– the average mercenary rate (if I’m remembering correctly).

So, I’m thinking that his purchases look like this–
A brand new large metal shield! (20 gp, 15 lbs.)
A sunrod (2 gp, 1 lb.) — definitely an impulse buy… it looked so cool!
A good meal (0.5 gp) — something he’ll brag about, I’m sure
A nice long sword (15gp, 4 lb. + 5gp, “personalization”… say, silver etching along the blade)
Total spent: 42.5 gp
