Game Coordination

Tom and Cheryl are still on schedule to visit us this weekend, so our normal D&D night is off. It looks like our next meeting should be Friday, February 9th. As ever, if that doesn’t work for you, please let us know.

Plot and structure

I’ve read some interesting advice, mostly targeted at novelists, but useful for roleplaying as well. (I’d especially like to figure out how to adapt the Sequel/Scene pacing elements to games.)

Sequels and Scenes: Important balance, important emphasis, particularly for writers.

Art of Conflict.

Quick Spirit of the Century summary

Next Game: Saturday January 27th

With Kev’s illness derailing the game this week, it looks like we’re going to need to skip ahead to next week. Jennifer is throwing a goodbye party for her designer on Friday night, so a Saturday game sounds best. Can you all make it?

Just to make things trickier, Jennifer’s flying out of Fresno Saturday night for a conference in Las Vegas. I think that we can still get in a good session– say 11 am – 6 pm?

The game log has been updated too.

(If you saw anything here– ignore it. We’re back to throwing the party on Friday. Yay for Saturday gaming.)

Tarot Quiz

You are The Hierophant

Divine Wisdom. Manifestation. Explanation. Teaching.

All things relating to education, patience, help from superiors. The Hierophant is often considered to be a Guardian Angel.

The Hierophant’s purpose is to bring the spiritual down to Earth. Where the High Priestess between her two pillars deals with realms beyond this Earth, the Hierophant (or High Priest) deals with worldly problems. He is well suited to do this because he strives to create harmony and peace in the midst of a crisis. The Hierophant’s only problem is that he can be stubborn and hidebound. At his best, he is wise and soothing, at his worst, he is an unbending traditionalist.

Cleaning out recent links

An interesting idea: trying to game 30 days straight. I still have a lot to read here: 30 days of gaming.

Quirky look at RPG prep, using chemistry as a metaphor.

What would a player’s advice chapter look like? Also, Players providing each other with fun. and A preliminary guide for playing mindfully.

Monte Cook’s: “Final Thoughts” about D&D Spell Casters and Rounds.

Sacredchao’s blog: Stuff, lots of movie reviews and discussion.

Game On: Friday January 19th

We had our negotiation with Despater, but it looks like the gods are leaving him to us. Let’s see what this week brings…

If you’ll have any problem making it Friday night, please let us know.

I think we’re looking at winding up the D&D game pretty soon– it’s been a lot of fun. Still, I look ahead and try to figure out what fun’s on the horizon. Here are the choices I’m hearing so far…

Goodies and games

A cool blog, with a very specific purpose: Landon Darkwood’s Gamehacks is all about tweaking games to fit a group perfectly.

D&D:
Good advice about combat among NPCs.
Draconians: WotC article and ready to use.
The Marshal class. Cool class– very much a battle field commander. An alternative to the Bard in the party buffing role.
For RPGA: A very clear explanation of EV, CoH, and more. Also: recording the level bump in your adventure journal.

RPG tools, useful across games.

Interesting, humorous sounding board game: War on Terror and another interesting sounding Board Game: Dos Rios.

January 12th: Next Game

We got back into our campaign with a bang, executing an insanely optimistic “scry and fry” on a building full of Paladins of Tyranny, after returning to the Dragon Coast and our precocious king who would be a mage.

We’re on for next Friday, unless you’ll have a problem with making it. If you have any problem, just let us know.

Happy 2007

I had a great 2006, and enjoyed the beginning of 2007. While the span from Christmas til yesterday was exhausting, it was great to see everyone, play a few games, and enjoy the presence of family. I’m a really lucky guy, you know?

Happy 2007 to everyone!
