Today marks the 340th anniversary of the reincorporation of New Amsterdam by the English into the colony of New York. Its an important and momentous occasion, a turning point not only in the development of New York, but America in general. ((L.E. Modesitt Jr. Ghost books, as a divergence, have a Dutch-dominated New York and New England surviving British attempts at incorporation).

So, the handover of a valuable colony or country between rivals…and the people in the colony caught in the crossfire…

I liked the whole Maquis sub-plot for Star Trek, but that’s pretty much a done thing. Since I’m gearing up for Shadowrun, let’s see where inspiration leads me.


Southern California has long been a source of struggle; California Free State began with possession, but as an occipied colony, Japan was unwilling to spend much effort to struggle against California’s rivals.

Aztlan and Pueblo have long coveted Southern California; San Diego fell to Aztlan as soon as CFS seceeded. The rest of Southern California was anarchy; gangs ran most of LA.

The runners either live in the area, or have a base nearby. The game includes runs as normal, but several seem ‘fishy’. The runs they’re on take on a more overt ‘scouting’ sensibility as rumours in the ‘trix and on the street imply something big’s coming up. No one knows who or why, but suspicions include the Japaneese Imperial State making a show of force, Aztlan resuming their war, and PCC (Pueblo Corporate Council) massing for invasion in the east.

After a few info gathering runs, their employer starts to target local power groups (gang leaders and the like) for wetwork, hoping to eliminate organized resistance to their forces. Friends, contacts, and fixers are all agitated about the looming changes…
